8 Tips to Prevent Bed Bugs Part 1

When it comes to creepy-crawly pests, bed bugs have to be toward the top of the list of most annoying. When bed bugs infest an area, they can be extremely difficult to get rid of, and are some of the most persistent insects in the US. Bed bug populations have been exploding across the US, and these bugs are very costly to get rid of.  Here are some great tips to help assure you prevent future bed bug infestations before they become severe.


1) Check furniture for bed bugs before bringing it inside- Bringing new furniture into your home can be providing the perfect vessel for bed bugs to sneak into your property. Anytime you buy a new piece of furniture, make sure to inspect it thoroughly for signs of these pests. Check underneath cushions, between structural cracks, and any other places they may be lurking. If you can prevent bringing bed bugs inside, you can drastically reduce the amount of annoyance these creatures bring to your life.


2) Try to determine bed bug bites ASAP- If you can diagnose bed bug bites early on, it will be much easier to get rid of them. Bed bug bites look similar to mosquito bites, but usually come in clusters of 3 or more, and are typically on exposed areas of the body that are along the line of your blankets. If you suspect you may have bed bug bites, make sure to check your mattress for signs right away.


3) Protect your mattress- There are products that you can purchase that will help encase your mattress and box spring. This prevents bed bugs from infesting your sleeping area. However, it is important to remember that these products will not prevent bed bugs from entering your home, but at least you will not be bit while sleeping.  


4) Check your hotel for bed bugs- Always make sure to check places you are staying for signs of bed bugs. If you are exposed to an infestation on the road, these pests can find ways to come back with you, and take over your home. Try to find these infestations in new places, and get as far away as possible if you find signs of bed bugs.
